» Feature Writer Phil Partington - Who's getting picked where?

Kevin Durant has declared and Greg Oden is expected to declare tomorrow. Where is your team picking at and who do you think they'll take?

» Feature Writer Phil Partington - Mock Draft

In response to Who's getting picked where? posted by Fantapedia:
I thought I'd post an early (very early) mock draft. Stay tuned for MUCH more draft coverage including a more researched mock later in June.
For now, here's a look at the top 14 (you can also see an early mock in a previous article):
1. Portland takes Greg Oden
2. Seattle takes Kevin Durant
3. Atlanta takes Yi Jianlian (I still think this is too high for Mike Conley, though that pick would make sense. Jianlian's a 4, but could be moved to play some time at center)
4. Memphis takes Brandan Wright
5. Boston takes Mike Conley
6. Milwaukee takes Al Horford (this might be the perfect fit for Milwaukee and for Horford)
7. Minnesota takes Corey Brewer (I love his game, but he's SO skinny. 6-8 185lbs!)
8. Charlotte takes Julian Wright (could opt for Jeff Green instead)
9. Chicago takes Spencer Hawes (I think he'll raise his stock beyond Noah's)
10. Sacramento takes Jeff Green
11. Atlanta takes Acie Law (this might be early for him, but if they don't case Conley with the third pick or trade back or up for him, look for them to chase Law with this pick).
12. Philadelphia takes Joakim Noah (they don't need him with Dalembert and Hunter, but he probably won't slide past here)
13. New Orleans takes Al Thornton
14. LA Clippers take either Thaddeus Young or Tiago Splitter

Phil, are Yi's contract issues worked out? If not, he likely won't go this high. His upside is scary, though. Also, I can't see Law in the top 15; he's just not big enough and doesn't do much more than score. If I'm Minnesota, I'm taking Splitter, then I'm moving Garnett. Splitter is going to be freaky in the NBA -- a Pau Gasol clone.

Keep up the good work, Mark.

You'll have to forgive me, Mark. I've been away for the last month, so I haven't heard the latest on most NBA news, let alone anything about Yi's contract. Frankly, I don't think it'll be a huge issue, or at least no more of an issue than with any player who comes from China. The real issue with Yi is how old is he? They still aren't certain.

Law isn't big enough? He's Chauncey Billups size...maybe a little thinner. I know I put him higher than he should go, but there are so few point guards and it's hard to imagine the Hawks passing on a point with one of their top two picks. I can only imagine they'll try to work out a trade or something, but those are nearly impossible to predict without hearing further rumor. So, for now, I'll assume they're keeping the pick. I love Conley, but three is too high to pick him in my opinion. Still, it might be wiser than taking Law at 11, so that's all still up in the air for me. Crittenton might get a look, but he's not as polished as Law and he's more of a scorer, too.

I like Splitter's intensity and mobility, but he's no Pau Gasol. He's more of a shotblocking, defensive guy and not very offensive minded at all. Conversely, Gasol's weakness is sometimes at the defensive end.
