This piece is about the New Orleans-Oklahoma City Hornets. Now that I’ve used that ridiculously long name once, let me just stick to Hornets or New Orleans for all future references. Besides, the focus is on the results, not the name.
For the first time in team history, the Hornets are 4-0. I couldn’t be happier, if I lived in New Orleans, which I don’t. This is such an easy team to root for. Not just for all of the strife its fans have suffered through in the past year, either. This is an NBA team, filled with good, interesting guys.
Imagine that. NBA players who are both good and interesting. Rookie of the Year, Chris Paul, is a virtuoso with a basketball. He can pass and shoot – the quintessential point guard. He’s the kind of player that playoff teams need running the show.
Peja Stojakovic, acquired from Indians, drops 3-point bombs that make Hornets’ fans swoon, while breaking the hearts of opponents.
Center Tyson Chandler may have finally found a place where he can blossom into the player most expected him to be.
So the Hornets have a court leader, a lights-out shooter and a solid big man. These guys may not win the Hornets a title this season, but they’ll certainly bring joy to the people of New Orleans.
They should be praised for this alone.
