NBA players are still whining incessantly about referee's calls, but now they're being penalized for it.
A new NBA rule, banning all player complaints, facial expressions and gestures has led to twice as many technical foul calls as there were at the same point during the 2005-06 NBA season. More players are also being ejected from games.
Now, the players and their union director, Billy Hunter, are crying foul, themselves, and they are even threatening to bring an unfair labor practice suit against Commissioner David Stern and the NBA.
This may go down in history as the season for the most crying the players have ever done over minor NBA decisions. Stern has also taken heat for bringing a new basketball in for the 2006-07 season. Sure, the basketball decision was a poor one, but sooner or later, the players just have to shut up and play the game.
As far as I'm concerned, the games are much better without its stars twisting their faces into odd-shaped pretzels everytime a referee calls a blocking foul.
This is one rule that is good for the NBA, and it's time for Billy Hunter and the rest of the players to follow the rules, stop the complaining and just play basketball.
