From the Boston Celtics to the New York Knicks, NBA teams in the Atlantic Division have a few months to get things in order for the 2007-2008 NBA season.
NBA teams have only a few months to go before the start of the 2007-2008 NBA season. Many have already started shaking things up, which has made for an interesting summer. Here is a snapshot of what teams in the Atlantic Division have done and what they need to do during the remainder of the summer to improve their rosters. Boston Celtics - If the Celtics go through with trading for Kevin Garnett, they will have crafted a trio of stars that the rest of the league should fear. With Kevin Garnett in the middle and Paul Pierce and Ray Allen on the perimeter, it's tough not to consider them as a potential championship contender. Still, they will need to round out their roster a bit. Kendrick Perkins is a solid NBA center, provided he can stay healthy, and Tony Allen is a good player to have coming off the bench. Rajon Rondo has great upside, but can't hit a jump shot to save his life. The Celtics should look to fill out its roster with cheap, competant veterans, especially at the point guard and big man spots. Philadelphia 76ers - I don't understand why they drafted Thaddeus Young with their top pick. Al Thornton would've been better and the Sixers don't need another athletic wing anyway with Rodney Carney and Andre Iguodala already in the lineup. They should shop either Carney or Young and try to get a young big man to pair with Jason Smith, like Hakim Warrick of the Memphis Grizzlies or Anderson Varajeo of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Then, they should plan to give Louis Williams significant time off the bench. New Jersey Nets - They're doing great things this off season. They should just sit tight and fill out their roster. Drafting Sean Williams wasn't a bad gamble and signing Jamaal Magloire was a nice move. New York Knicks - The Knicks very badly need a point guard and another spot shooter or two. Even though David Lee and Renaldo Balkmen may be essentially the same player, the Knicks ought keep them both for now. They're cheap and I don't believe either one is at the peak of his trade stock. If they can move another one of their enormous contracts, they should. Otherwise, they might not have enough wiggle room to go after the players they need. Toronto Raptors - The Raptors are coming off an excellent season and are trying to surround star forward Chris Bosh with numerous perimeter shooters. Adding Jason Kapono and Carlos Delfino will help them out. They're turning into the international team with eighth foreign players currently on their roster.
