UCLA survived against Washington State, then punished Washington to remain unbeaten and on top of our Suite 16 Poll.
The holiday season brings lots of college basketball tournaments and plenty of weak competition for the NCAA top 20. Thus, most top 20 teams won a game or two last week, leaving our Suite 16 virtually unchanged.
- UCLA – The Bruins are undefeated, and showed all the power of a top-ranked team, surviving a scare from fiesty Washington State, leaving UCLA on top of all of the college basketball rankings.
- North Carolina -- North Carolina has a couple of top 20 wins, including a victory of then number 1 Ohio State The Tar Heels are 12-1 and look as good as anyone.
- Wisconsin -- Two more wins, and the Badgers improved to 14-1.
- Duke -- The Blue Devils improved to 12-1 with a win last week and are a solid number four in our college basketball rankings.
- Florida -- The Gators got another win and are cruising toward conference play.
- Arizona -- Good wins over Cal and Stanford helped the Wildcats improve to 11-1.
- Oklahoma State -- The Cowboys are 13-1, after clobbering Texas-San Antonio. Recent wins over Syracuse and Pittsburgh, though, and the Cowboys deserve the 7 spot in the college basketball rankings.
- Butler -- A league win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the Bulldogs go to 13-1.
- Notre Dame -- The Irish is 12-1 and Notre Dame has won 11 straight.
- Kansas -- The Jayhawks beat up on a couple of cupcakes and improved to 12-2.
- Tennessee -- The Volunteers are 12-2 and their college basketball ranking is still based on two very good wins against Memphis and Oklahoma State.
- Oregon -- The Ducks are a perfect 13-0, but a huge week against number 1 UCLA and a touch USC team will tell how good the Ducks really are.
- Alabama -- A nice win over Oklahoma boosted the Crimson Tide to 12-1.
- Ohio State -- A win over Coppin State helped the Buckeyes improve to 11-2. Indiana is a nice Big Ten test on January 2nd.
- Clemson -- The Tigers finally beat a solid opponent in Georgia to remain a perfect 14-0 and break into our college basketball rankings.
- Air Force -- The Falcons are 13-1 and had a good week with wins over two solid squads -- Santa Clara and George Washington.
