With the 2006-07 NBA season surging ahead, the NBA trade rumors are beginning to swirl. Memphis star Pau Gasol is one big name being mentioned.
Ever notice that when NBA teams say a player isn’t going to be traded, he’s usually packing his bags a few days later. This is why NBA trade rumors often are more fact than rumor. Not when the NBA trade rumor involves the Memphis Grizzlies’ Pau Gasol, says team owner, Michael Heisley. Heisley was aghast, when told that the NBA trade rumor mill had Gasol headed to Boston. This would be about as likely as the Lakers trading Kobe Bryant or the Cavaliers swapping LeBron James, Heisley said. He then said that it wouldn’t do any good for NBA teams to come calling, because Gasol isn’t for sale. It’s unabashed talk like this that makes one wonder if a Gasol deal isn’t in the works already. There has been more speculation than actual NBA trade rumor about Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Kevin Garnett. A free agent in 2008, the Twolves would certainly want to get something for him, so a trade is not entirely out of the question. Minnesota has enough solid players around Garnett this year, though, for the Timberwolves to make a solid playoff run. So, shipping Garnett in 2006-07 will indeed be a slippery slope. Most likely suitors for Garnett are the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls. Garnett could be the piece that puts both teams over the top, and the Bulls have enough young talent to spare. Of course, this is only another NBA trade rumor, and it isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. A trade involving a star like Kevin Garnett would certainly be an NBA stunner. It’s speculation such as this, though, that makes NBA trade rumors so much fun.
