Background: Paul Pierce began making a name for himself in college when he was named the Big-Eight Freshman of the year at the University of Kansas (KU). The Jayhawk’s, after a fierce recruiting battle, relished Pierce’s high scoring totals which earned him two MVP awards in the Big-12 Conference Tournaments after averaging 16.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per-game. Pierce entered the NBA draft after the 1998 season and was selected by the Boston Celtics as the 10th overall pick among other future NBA All-Stars such as Vince Carter, and Dirk Nowitzki. Early life in the NBA: Pierce continued putting up large scoring numbers in the NBA as he quickly became the face of the Celtics Franchise. But the biggest highlight of his early career came in the 2002 Eastern Conference finals when he led the Celtics to the biggest fourth-quarter in game 3. The Celtics overcame a 21 point deficit thanks to Pierce’s 19 points. NBA Highlights: Other than his contribution to the historic comeback, Pierce also holds several franchise records for the Celtics including; most 3-point field goals made in a career (989); most 3-point FG made in a game (20), and Career Scoring Average (23.5 PPG, second to Larry Bird). Pierce also holds the franchise record for scoring 30 or more points in a game at eight, the most recent on March 8th 2006. Paul Pierce's highest point total in a game was an astonishing 50 against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 15, 2006.
