Dallas is on its second big win streak of the year, and Phoenix, Utah and San Antonio remain in the top 5 in Suite101's NBA Power Rankings.

  1. Dallas Mavericks – A 20th straight victory over the Hornets ran the Dallas Mavericks' overall streak to nine games, propelling the Mavs to the top spot in our NBA Power Rankings.
  2. San Antonio Spurs -- Just a game behind Dallas in the NBA's Southwest Division, Tim Duncan and company continue to dominate both at home and on the road. The Spurs are 22-8 and firmly entrenched near the top of the NBA rankings.
  3. Phoenix Suns -- The Suns monstrous 15-game win streak was finally snapped, but Phoenix is still 8-2 in its last 10 games and averages an NBA-best 111 points per game. NBA MVP candidate Steve Nash has the Suns running on all cylinders.
  4. Utah Jazz – At 6-4 in its last 10 games, Utah has stumbled slightly. Carlos Boozer is still putting up NBA MVP numbers, though, and Deron Williams is a superb point guard; these two give the Jazz championship elements and place Utah at a solid number 4 in our NBA Power Rankings.
  5. Chicago Bulls -- A stellar week that included a 24-0 run in a big win over the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers, gave the Bulls an NBA Eastern Conference-leading 19 wins, helping Chicago leap two places in Suite101's NBA Power rankings. The Bulls are an uncanny 14-2 at home, best in the NBA.
  6. Washington Wizards -- NBA MVP candidate Gilbert Arenas and his Washington Wizards make the biggest jump in our NBA rankings, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. Washington's surge has helped it capture first place in the Southeast Division and the number 3 spot in the NBA's Eastern Conference.
  7. Detroit Pistons -- The Pistons are 7-3 in their last 10 games, but Detroit drops a couple of spots in the NBA Power Rankings, mainly because of the outstanding play of Chicago and Washington. The Pistons, though, still hold the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
  8. Los Angeles Lakers -- Kobe Bryant is shooting more and scoring more, but the Lakers are finding life without LaMar Odom difficult, and Los Angeles is falling in the NBA Power Rankings. Kobe dropped 58 on Charlotte last week, but the Lakers lost in triple-overtime to the lowly Bobcats. Still, Los Angeles is 19-11 and in second place in the Pacific Division.
  9. Cleveland Cavaliers -- Even with superstar LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers may be the worst good team in the NBA. Cleveland is a horrid 4-9 on the road and constantly gives away big leads in the second half of games. Meanwhile, Cleveland is 17-12 overall -- good for the third-best record in the Eastern Conference and a 9 spot in our NBA Power Rankings.
  10. Houston Rockets -- Life without Yao Ming -- out 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his leg -- is proving difficult, as the Rockets are just 4-6 in their last 10 games. Two straight wins, though, and an overall record of 18-12 gives the Rockets the final spot in our NBA Power Rankings.
