Which NBA players have the best NBA slam dunks? Suite101 ranks the top 3 all-time greatest NBA slam dunks and guides you to all of the slam dunk video action.
In the NBA, slam dunks are the runway models of professional basketball. Sure, high shooting percentages and strong defense win games, but NBA fans long for the sexy play – the high-flying, player-leaping, NBA slam dunks.
Suite101 is ranking our all-time, top three NBA slam dunks. Check out each one, then go to or poll and rank your own.
All-time NBA slam dunks, Number 3 – Michael Jordan at the 1985 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Jordan flew through the air, as only Michael Jordan could do; he double-clutched, then put the ball under the basket and slam dunked it home. Take a look at this amazing NBA slam dunk.
All-time NBA slam dunks, Number 2 – In the 2000 Olympics, the NBA’s personal jet, also known as Vince Carter, took off. On the ascent, Carter jumped over a 7-foot center, for one of the coolest NBA slam dunks ever. We realize it wasn’t an NBA game, but it was an NBA player. We’d find it hard to believe that anyone could disagree that this is one of the coolest NBA slam dunks of all time.
All-time NBA slam dunks, Number 1 – Our top choice for best NBA slam dunks is an array of giant dunks from a surprisingly small NBA player. We go all the way back to 1986, when Spud Webb, standing just 5-6, shocked the NBA world by winning the NBA Slam Dunk contest.
Not only did Spud Webb unseat defending champion and favored teammate Dominique Wilkins, Webb did it in style. For someone of Webb’s stature to even be able to complete a slam dunk is amazing enough, but Webb reversed, spun and double-clutched his way to the title.
