UCLA Bruins are unbeaten and on top of our NCAA Suite 16

The UCLA Bruins have raced through their 2006-2007 schedule to a perfect 11-0, placing them atop our NCAA Suite 16 rankings.

  1. UCLA – The Bruins are undefeated, including three top 25 wins, making UCLA once again an easy choice for the top spot in our college basketball rankings. A New Year's Eve tilt with Washington looms.
  2. North Carolina -- A mainstay at number 2, the Tar Heels continue exceptional play. North Carolina has two top 20 wins, including a victory of then number 1 Ohio State, and are a sparkling 10-1.
  3. Wisconsin -- The Badgers are 12-1, including a recent victory over then second-ranked Pittsburgh. Plus, they have a Player of the Year candidate in Alando Tucker.
  4. Duke -- The Blue Devils are young but balanced. Several key top 20 wins prove that Duke belongs high in the college basketball rankings.
  5. Florida -- Improved play from Joakim Noah and Al Horford helped the Gators shut down Greg Oden and rout Ohio State. Florida is beginning to play like the defending national champion.
  6. Arizona -- The Wildcats have a nice blend of experience and youth, including five double-figure scorers. After losing its opening contest, Arizona has reeled off nine straight wins, earning a solid position in our college basketball rankings.
  7. Oklahoma State -- The Cowboys are 12-1, with recent wins over Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
  8. Butler -- Still trying to shed the mid-major stigma, the 12-1 Bulldogs continue to build on an already-impressive resume that includes a pre-season NIT championship.
  9. Washington -- The Huskies are 10-1 and have one of the top big men in the country in freshman center Spencer Hawes. Top-ranked UCLA awaits Washington on New Year's Eve.
  10. Notre Dame -- Pollsters still don't love the 10-1 Irish, who are ranked 19th in the AP and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today polls. We like Notre Dame's two top 20 wins and its tremendous backcourt of Russell Carter and Colin Falls, who combine for over 32 points and 8 rebounds per game.
  11. Kansas -- The Jayhawks have two losses, but Kansas also has quality wins over Florida, USC and Boston College and a Player of the Year candidate in Brandon Rush.
  12. Tennessee -- While most college basketball experts are raving over Ohio State's freshmen, Tennessee has four freshmen getting significant minutes, too. The difference in the Vols and Buckeyes is that the Vols have beaten some very good competition (Memphis and Oklahoma State).
  13. Oregon -- The Ducks have beaten everyone on their schedule, including then top 25 Georgetown.
  14. Alabama -- The Crimson Tide is 11-1 and has one of the best front courts in the land. Alabama lacks quality wins though, placing it 14th in our college basketball rankings.
  15. Ohio State -- We still don't like that the Buckeyes don't have a single good win on their schedule. When they've played good teams (North Carolina and Florida), they've lost. Still, with Greg oden leading a crop of stellar freshmen, we just couldn't leave Ohio State out of our college basketball rankings.
  16. Wichita State -- Two straight losses dropped the Shockers in most college basketball rankings. Two top 20 NCAA wins, though, help them hang on in our Suite 16.
